Dear journalists,
October 13 will again mark a great sportive day here in Cologne: On this day we will organise the 2019 edition of the famous RheinEnergieMarathon Cologne, Germany’s marathon #4.
Themed “Your Cologne. Your goal.” the race will again combine top athlete and recreational sports, Rhenanian cheerfulness and runners’ ambitions, carnival costumes and runners’ garments and end up in a big party after the finish.
In 2019 we are expecting 7,000 marathon runners, 16,000 half marathoners and 4,000 relay team runners as well as 1,500 pupils and children.
Please note: The greatly demanded half marathon will probably be completely sold out at the beginning of July, as early as never before.
Also the other competitions experience a higher interest than in previous years.
Sustainability is becoming a bigger and bigger deal for us. This is why we started to implement first steps to a greener event in order to eliminate big CO2 emittents – and heavily rely on the participation of the runners:
- test of 100,000 reusable cups in the REWE Group refreshment area as well as at a selected refreshment station along the course plus 300,000 cups of recyclable paper – all to be collected in 100 specifically designed nets and then reused at other events or entirely recycled (Facebook | Instagram)
- sustainable medals – fashionably designed wood plates from sustainable Hungarian forestry instead of vastly transported zinc medals from South Africa – 100% sustainable materials, 100% made in E. U. (Facebook | Instagram)
- woodshirt – 67% wood fibres and 33% organic cotton – 100% sustainable materials, 100% made in E. U. (Facebook | Instagram)
