Pros

Although we have more of a reputation in the scene for being an atmospheric amateur marathon, you can definitely run fast in Cologne!

The course record for the men is a brisk 2:07:37. It was run in 2012, even though the leader at the time took a wrong turn 500 metres before the finish with a lead of around 10 seconds and only came second. In the same year, the women’s record was also set in a sporty 2:25:35 h.

So if you fancy a fast, atmospheric and sustainable run, Cologne is the place for you!

By the way: We’ve got the getting lost thing under control by now! Last year, we hosted the German Marathon Championships.

Would you like to be shouted at and be the centre of attention for 300,000 spectators? Then get in touch with Jurrie or Yannick.

We look forward to seeing you!

World Athletics Road Race Labels 2025

For 2025 we have received the ‘World Athletics Road Race Label 2025’ from World Athletics for our two major competitions!

This means that the Generali Cologne Marathon and the Generali Half Marathon Cologne can also call themselves ‘World Rankings Competitions’!

Based on this worldwide seal of quality, you as a professional athlete will receive certain points for your time and ranking result on 5 October, which will then be added to your annual account.

“The Cologne Marathon has a special emotional significance for me. I lived in Cologne for two years and ran my very first half marathon here. I was able to win it straight away. The atmosphere along the course and the finish at the cathedral carried me along the course and make the Cologne Marathon a unique event.”
Laura Hottenrott
“I am delighted that Cologne organized the marathon championships, as the marathon has been supporting young German road runners for many years.
It were certainly worthy nationals at a top organized event – and on a very fast course.
I ran the German U23 record for the half marathon distance here a few years ago!”
